![]() My game says 78% completion rate, but I did find the everyone location achievement. My least favorite enemy had to be the poisonous souls in the library, their hit boxes were brutal sometimes. Anyways, the combat was very satisfying, and exploration felt very rewarded. Also, taking on the gold faced boss up at the top of the snowy peak out of order was BRUTAL lol. The story was relatively ambiguous, which is part of why I think it was difficult to immerse myself into the game completely, but damn were the cut scenes awesome!!! Playtime probably would have been 2-3 hours less, but I did not know until just before the final two bosses that at 20,000 donations to the Albero church I could fast travel between shrines, which would have been helpful. It is almost as if a souls-like and Metroid Vania-like game came together to capture a dark reality. Bosses were difficult, but not frustrating, and the bloody, dark aged nature of the combat and blood was a nice change of pace. However, as I started getting the hang of the controls, platforming, and parry mechanisms, the game became extremely satisfying and fun to traverse. It's sad to think that lots of people will never play this fascinating game because a bunch of marketers can't see the difference between "punitive" and "difficult" (which Blasphemous is, obviously, at least in the beginning).ġ4h 43m PlayedThe first couple hours of this game I enjoyed, but I was not yet hooked. You do not lose your entire progression each time you die, there are checkpoints just before each boss room, and the only real retribution for being killed is losing the use of (a part of) your magic bar (which is anyway useless half the time. Let's be cristal clear : Blasphemous is NOT AT ALL a punishing game. I think I'll never understand why and how it became so cool to claim that your game is super-difficult and harder than hardcore, even when it's not true and even when the game itself has so many other qualities. Unfortunately, Blasphemous is yet another game being a victim of its own marketing. If Hollow Knight is probably the most brilliant contemporary iteration for the first category, Blashemous is its counterpart for the other one. Highly recommended.Ģ4h 55m PlayedThere are basically two types of 'metroidvanias': those that focus on navigation and exploration (Metroid lineage) and those that focus on combat and build (Castlevania lineage). I know why the main character appears a lot in other indie games. Other than what I listed here, this game is really a masterpiece metroidvania game. It would be nice to get them without the need of replaying the entire game again. Several bosses, rosary beads, one heart, one prayer, and a map area are locked behind New Game +. If you pretty much run in a straight line on the map from the beginning, you are screwing yourself over. The game does little to point you in the right direction. If you are a first time player and do not use any guide, you will most likely fight an early boss that makes it impossible to get the true ending. These sections were by far the most unenjoyable things in this game. Things like jumping to a ladder and falling through it, your sword going through a lantern when trying to bounce off it, falling through platforms into spikes, etc. The game has fairly decent platforming, but the challenges really make you wish the mechanics were better. Only negatives are: - Some things would be impossible or require a large amount of time searching every space on the map for some secrets. It would be fun to do a New Game + and toy around with different combinations more. The various things to collect are fun and actually helpful. The lore itself was really well done if not a bit confusing at times. I really enjoyed the character art and the backgrounds/environments.
